How it started

The move had been going on for hours: open boxes, loose clothes, a washing machine where we shoved sheets and towels. She was tense; I just wanted to say something other than logistics. I thought of a simple gesture that didn't need words.

The idea and the place

I went to the laundromat with an empty bag and came back with a Puffy wrapped in a light cloth. I didn't hide it in a pocket (it wouldn't fit); I placed it on top of the pile of clean towels inside the large bag we were already taking.

When she took the bag out at home, the first thing I noticed was the clean scent of towels; second, the softened look on her face when she saw the plush. She hugged it without realizing she was still covered in boxes and cardboard dust.
