Why I did it

My mother had spent weeks wrapped up in the move and I wanted to leave her something that wasn’t practical: a hug in the shape of a plush. I thought of a corner that was already hers — the terrace — and how she’d see it before she even opened the door.

Finding it among the leaves

I went out early and brought it wrapped with a strip of fabric that matched the leaves. I placed it sitting on the edge of a large pot, not inside, so it looked like it was watching over the plants.

There was a trace of morning light and the plush, in its neutral tee, looked like another guest in the garden.

How I prepared it
