A bag, a lamp, and a brief silence

I'd been stuck on a report and kept saying “just one more thing” again and again. When I turned my chair, I saw a cloth bag leaning against the base of my desk lamp. I didn't think it was for me until I opened it.

Inside was Puffy sitting in a little shirt with hand-stitched eyes. His fur was so soft and the fabric smelled gently of home, as if he'd just been made. It was a simple gesture: no big bow, just him, neatly placed, like a note that said “for when you need it.”

I sat holding him in my palm and, in the minute it took me to laugh out loud, I felt the room's silence lift a little.

How the night went

There were no big preparations, just soft footsteps in the hall and a bag that arrived without a sound. Here's how I experienced it:

• 22:15 Left the bag by the lamp while I was on a call.
• 22:20 I hung up and assumed it was junk until I opened it.
• 22:22 I sat with Puffy and let myself laugh and sigh.
• 22:30 It didn't fix the report, but it nudged me to rest. I turned off the screen.

In the end, it wasn't a gift with a grand message. It was a tiny reminder: someone had thought of me and had made the small gesture of bringing soft company to my desk.

Why I'm telling this
