The trick is to be quick and gentle

Makeup and cream stains usually mix pigment and oil: they act fast but are best treated by tackling the oil without soaking the plush. At Casa Puffy we believe in simple, gentle solutions made to care for both the plush and its outfits.

Why these stains are different

Foundation and makeup contain oils and pigments; creams add grease and sometimes color. That's why water alone isn't enough: cleaning the wrong way can spread the stain or soak the stuffing.

Goal: remove surface residue first (without rubbing) and then treat the rest with minimal moisture, avoiding wetting the inside of the Puffy.

Materials and quick kit

  • 1
Paper tissues: to absorb without rubbing.
  • 2
White cotton cloth (or soft synthetic suede) for gentle dabbing.
  • 3
Mild liquid soap or gentle shampoo diluted in warm water (use foam, do not soak).
  • 4
Baking soda or talc (to absorb grease from older stains).
  • 5
Cotton swabs for precise cleaning around edges.
  • 6
Cool/low-heat hair dryer or fan for controlled drying.

Tip: before using any product, test on a small, hidden interior area.

Quick and safe steps (practical order)

  1. Blot — don’t rub: use a paper tissue and press lightly on the stain to lift excess. Repeat using clean sides of the tissue.
  2. Remove solid bits: with a dry cotton swab carefully pick up any leftover solid lipstick or cream; avoid dragging.
  3. Apply gentle foam: dampen a white cloth with foam from mild soap (do not soak). Dab from the edge of the stain toward the center.
  4. Rinse locally: use another barely damp cloth to lift the foam. Do not wet the plush deeply.
  5. Dry quickly: press with a dry cloth and use cool/low-heat air; avoid strong direct heat. Keep the plush positioned so the area doesn't become flattened.
  6. Restore the texture: once dry, gently brush with a soft-bristle brush to lift the fur.

If the stain remains after two tries, stop and contact us for specific advice; forcing more cleaning can cause damage.

Common mistakes that make stains worse

Don't rub: rubbing spreads pigment and mats the fur. Blot and absorb instead.

Don't soak: over-wetting can leave the stuffing damp and cause odors or deformation.

Avoid bleach and excess alcohol: they can remove color and damage fibers; use only after a small test and with great care.

Don't use strong heat: irons or very hot dryers can change the plush's texture.

What to do with removable clothing

If the stain is on your Puffy's clothing: remove the piece carefully and follow the care label. Many small garments are hand-washable with mild soap and laid flat to dry.

At Casa Puffy we design outfits with care in mind: if the garment is washable, treat the stain there first so you don't transfer it to the plush. Check our selection of individual outfits and accessories and extras for replacement ideas while the piece is being cleaned.

Mini kit to carry (for when it happens on the go)

  • 1
    Paper tissues
  • 2
    Mini cotton cloth
  • 3
Small bottle of mild soap (sample) or a gentle alcohol-free wipe

Stay calm: in most cases spotting and absorbing quickly avoids harsher cleanings later.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use alcohol to remove lipstick?

Alcohol can help with strong pigments, but it dries fibers and may lighten colors. Test first on an inside area and use only with a swab, without soaking.

What if the stain has been there for days?

Older stains respond well to absorption with baking soda or talc left for a few hours and then vacuumed off. After that, proceed with a spot foam cleaning.

Can I put the Puffy's garment in the washing machine?

If the care label allows it, yes; wash by hand or on a gentle cycle. If the garment has embroidery or details, hand wash and dry flat. For doubts, write to our team.

What do I do if the stain won't come out?

Stop so you don't make it worse. Take photos and contact us to discuss options (repair or professional cleaning depending on the case).
