How a Puffy Waited in My Suitcase
I tucked it into my sister’s suitcase before picking her up at the airport: matching clothes, a little note and a soft hint of lavender. It was a small welcome that filled our afternoon.
A welcome that felt like a hug
My sister was coming back from Erasmus after eight months. I didn’t want anything flashy—just something that would say “welcome” without words. I thought of a Puffy inside her suitcase: a physical, huggable gesture with outfits she could change depending on the moment.
Why I chose a Puffy
I chose a Puffy because it feels like real company; not a cold object. I wanted something to fill the emptiness of the trip, something that had presence when she arrived home and opened her suitcase.
I ordered it with a simple tee and a small scarf tucked into its pocket. I also added a paper with a few lines and an envelope with two photos of us.
I pulled it out from the bottom of the suitcase and hugged it without thinking: it smelled like lavender and home. It was as if someone had saved a hug for me.
How I prepared it and hid it
I placed it in the suitcase among her clothes, wrapped in paper with a few drops of lavender essential oil (very little). The Puffy's tee was inside a separate bag so she would see the note first and then the little bear.

Before I picked a simple tee so the Puffy wouldn’t stand out too much.
-
That day I put it at the bottom of the suitcase and left the note on top of her toiletry bag.
-
Upon opening Her laughter filled the kitchen; she hugged me and said it was exactly what she needed.
-
Days later The Puffy stayed on her bed and we changed its outfits depending on the day.
It was simple to prepare and didn’t need big plans: just thinking about what she likes and how to make it easy to travel with. The Puffy’s interchangeable clothes helped the gift stay alive after arrival day.

What remained
There was a feeling of having left something tangible on her journey back; not just a note or a message. Seeing the Puffy on her bed in the days after reminded me that a detail works when it’s made for the person, not just the occasion.

Can a Puffy fit in a suitcase?
Yes, a Puffy can travel in a large suitcase or roomy bag. Keep its size in mind so it’s not cramped; ideally place it with clothes around it for protection.
Can I change the Puffy’s clothes afterwards?
Yes. The interchangeable clothes are a lovely way to give it different looks and keep the gift feeling alive. You can buy separate outfits and mix them for any occasion.
How do I make it smell like home?
A simple trick: put a few drops of essential oil on a piece of paper and wrap it with the Puffy (use sparingly). Avoid prolonged direct contact with delicate fabrics.
